The timeless fashion for pocket squares

We believe that having a variety of scarves and shawls is always a must-have in both women's and men's wardrobes. Today, we'll talk about men's pocket squares.

A pocket square is a men's wardrobe accessory that's no longer considered essential these days. However, anyone who chooses to wear one in their jacket breast pocket expresses their individuality while also sending a subtle signal about the elegance or casual nature of their look.

Initially, the pocket square was used solely for hygiene purposes. In the 18th century, when snuff was in vogue, pocket squares were used to cover the mouth and nose when sneezing or wiping hands. Over time, they also began to be used to prevent coins from falling out of pockets. Back then, the pocket square was worn not in the outer pocket, as we see today, but in the side pocket of trousers. Its function changed, but its presence in men's attire remained unchanged. The pocket square's popularity only grew.

In the 19th century, as the modern men's suit was taking shape, jackets began to feature an elegant pocket on the upper lapel, intended for a pocket square. Its popularity grew to such an extent that leaving this pocket "naked" became unacceptable. The Jazz Age ultimately cemented the pocket square's place on the upper part of the jacket, where it remains to this day. For men, this accessory always adds elegance, demonstrates attention to detail, and an overall refinement of style.

Some requirements for a pocket square:

  • It's always square, and its standard dimensions are: 26x26 cm, 30x30 cm, 35x35 cm, and 45x45 cm. The choice of dimensions depends on the fabric.
  • Choose pocket squares made from natural fabrics. Natural silk, for example, always adds a touch of sophistication. Cotton, linen, and cashmere pocket squares also look great.
  • The edges of a good pocket square should be rolled up and hand-stitched.
  • The pocket square should be folded so that 1/3 of its part (approximately 3-4 cm) sticks out of the breast pocket.

Remember that a pocket square is a stylish, lightweight, and versatile accessory that will earn you a reputation for paying attention to every detail.
